Description

Moor Farmhouse, which includes an adjoining linhay and barn to the south, is a farmhouse likely built in the late 17th to early 18th century, with farm buildings that were reroofed in the mid-19th century. The structure is made of plastered cob and rubble, featuring rubble stacks with 19th-century brick chimney shafts and slate roofs. The farmhouse has an unusually deep four-room layout facing south, with a central entrance lobby and staircase. The left (west) end room has a projecting rear lateral stack. It is two storeys high and has a regular but not symmetrical four-window front, with similar late 19th-century casements that include glazing bars. The central door is a 20th-century addition, accompanied by a 20th-century gabled porch with a slate roof. There is also a secondary door at the right end, sheltered by the adjoining linhay. A fifth window at that end would create a symmetrical appearance. The roof is hipped at each end, and the tall chimney shafts are prominent.

On the rear elevation, there is a late 17th-century oak four-light flat-faced mullion window with vertical iron bars and internal shutters on the right, as well as an 18th-century two-light window with an iron casement and rectangular panes of leaded glass to the right of the stack. Inside, the house features plain carpentry details, with large stone rubble fireplaces that have plain oak lintels. The two rear fireplaces include brick side ovens. The ceiling beams are rough-finished and waney, except for a chamfered and straight-cut stopped beam in the eastern room. The roof has not been inspected.

At the right end of the front, a block of farm buildings adjoins at right angles, facing west. The three-bay open-fronted linhay on the left is attached to the house and has full-height circular stone rubble piers (Alcock's Type S1). To the right is the barn, which features large central opposing full-height doorways leading to the threshing floor, with short midstrey walls on both sides. The gable end of the barn has a blocked ventilator.
