Description
The coffin slab and railings, located seven metres southeast of the southeast corner of the aisle of the Church of the Holy Cross, date from the 1860s. The stone slab tapers at the foot and is inspired by medieval designs. It features a carved foliated cross in relief, although the inscriptions on the sides are obscured by moss. The low iron railings are notable for their craftsmanship; the corner verticals have pyramidal finials, and ivy leaf tendrils are attached to the top horizontal rail. The two horizontal rails include uprights with foliage finials and alternating shorter uprights that have foliage above the lower rail. This structure represents a well-preserved example of a Gothic Revival tomb, complete with fine iron railings.
