Description
This granary, located approximately 5 metres north of The Grange, dates from the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed of local hand-made brick laid in Flemish bond, featuring decorative burnt headers, and is set on volcanic rubble footings. The building has a slate roof and is square in plan, with the granary situated above a small cartshed that has a pyramidal roof. The east side includes a loading bay, while the other elevations are uniform, featuring a double arch at the ground floor. The piers are square in section, with their lower parts made of volcanic rubble and brick above, topped with plain volcanic stone imposts. The brick arches are segmental and nearly round-headed. The granary has small windows beneath gauged brick flat heads. The cartshed is now partly filled, and the interior of the granary displays plain carpentry details.
