Description
The cider house and adjoining store, located approximately 5 meters north of West Ford Farmhouse, date from the 17th and 18th centuries. They are constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings and have a corrugated iron roof, which was formerly thatch. The structure consists of two adjoining gable-ended, two-storey blocks that step down the slope and face the farmhouse to the south.
The lower right-side block, which serves as the store, has a door on the right side. The upper left block, identified as the cider house, features a door to the right of center and a first-floor loading bay at the right end. Although the store is unheated, it may have had some domestic use, as indicated by its plastered walls, a chamfered cross beam with scroll stops, and a first-floor oak window frame in the east gable wall that has three lights with chamfered mullions. The cider house may be a later addition, characterized by plain chamfered cross beams and the remains of a cider press. Both blocks have three-bay roofs supported by plain A-frames with pegged lap-jointed collars. This building is included for its group value.
