Description

This is a row of terraced houses at 1-4 and 7-9 Lower Summerlands, likely dating to around 1810. The terrace originally included numbers 5 and 6, which were destroyed by fire and subsequently rebuilt to replicate the original appearance, making the terrace appear complete. The houses are constructed of red brick, and are two stories high with three windows each. Most of the doorways have round heads framed by wooden architraves; however, numbers 1 and 8 feature semi-circular stone hoods, number 1 incorporating a lamp within the fanlight. A modillion cornice sits below the parapet. Number 1 also has a two-story, three-window front facing Heavitree Road, incorporating one iron balcony. The windows are generally sash windows with glazing bars, except for those in number 9. The front doors are six-panel affairs with panelled reveals. The roofs are not visible, and the houses are topped by a parapet. Numbers 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 form a cohesive group.
