Description
No 42 Northernhay Street is a town house built in the early 19th century. It features mass wall construction that is painted, stuccoed, and blocked out, with the left side being painted and roughcast. The building has a brick chimney shaft with a platband and two ceramic chimneypots, topped by a slated gabled roof.
The layout includes one room deep and two rooms wide, with a central main entrance. The rooms are heated by a stack on the left side, while there are no remaining rooms on the right. The exterior presents a symmetrical, three-bay front and rises three storeys high, plus a basement. The entrance features a six-fielded panel door set within a doorcase that has fielded panel reveals, along with a rectangular overlight that has two vertical glazing bars. The building has hornless early 19th-century sashes throughout, with twelve-pane sash windows on either side of the door. The first floor has three twelve-pane sash windows, while the second floor has three six-pane sash windows. The basement includes a 20th-century light on the right side of the front elevation. The left side has a 20th-century window on the ground floor right and a two-light casement window on the second floor. The interior has not been inspected.
