Description

This is a late 17th-century Dutch house, located on The Strand in Topsham. It is stuccoed and stands two storeys and attics high. Considered one of the finest examples of its type, the end of the house facing the road features a Dutch parapet, likely original, and a large, late Georgian two-story bow window. Rusticated quoins define the corners of the building. An attic sash window is set in the gable. The longer front of the building retains two original 17th-century mullioned and transomed windows with leaded lights, which are indicative of the original window style used in late 17th-century merchant’s houses in the area. A garage has been created within a cottage, featuring a recent, curved gable. The Strand’s listed buildings are considered to form a group value.
