Description

The Turk's Head Public House is a long-established inn located at 202 High Street. It suffered from a fire in the 19th century. The building features a good carved Turk's Head and is said to be the place where Dickens met the Fat Boy. The front, rendered in the 18th or 19th century, is on an older timber-framed structure. The modern public house frontage has four storeys, with two windows on the first and second floors, and one window above, all featuring 19th-century sashes in flush frames. There is a parapet with a half hipped gabled slate roof behind, which is not visible from the street. The rear frontage on Waterbeer Street has an early 19th-century appearance, with two storeys and a modern bar frontage. Above, there are three 19th-century sashes in flush frames and a slate mansard roof. The building is included for its group value with Nos 192 to 20, which form a cohesive group.
