Description
The Guildhall, located at No. 203 on High Street, is a Grade I listed building dating from 1468 to 1470, with restorations made in the 19th century. The porch and the mayor's parlour above were added between 1592 and 1594. The hall features an arch-braced timber roof with seven bays and Perpendicular windows, with the northern window having been renewed. The porch extends over the pavement, supported by an arcade of granite piers and consists of three bays. Above the porch, there are coupled Corinthian columns that frame four-light mullion and transom windows with leaded lattices, topped by a balustraded parapet. The inner door is elaborately designed in a classical style, accompanied by contemporary panelling. The buildings numbered 192 to 203 are part of a group value context.
