Description

The Church of St Peter is a parish church that dates entirely from the 15th century and was restored in 1881. It is constructed of stone rubble with freestone dressings and has slate roofs. The building includes a nave, chancel, north aisle, chancel chapel, west tower, and south porch. The nave features three light flat-headed windows, while the chancel has a three light perpendicular east window, two light flat-headed south windows, and a moulded two-centred arch south doorway. The north aisle contains three light perpendicular windows on the east and west sides, along with three light flat-headed windows on the north side.

The 15th-century west tower is characterized by diagonal buttresses, battlements, two light flat-headed bell openings, and a three light perpendicular west window above a moulded two-centred arch doorway. A polygonal stair turret with battlements and gargoyles is located on the south side. Inside, there is a three bay north arcade featuring four centred arches, squat piers with vestigial capitals, and foliage and shields. The chancel has a four centred arch leading to the chancel chapel, which also has similar capitals. The chancel arch is Victorian, as are the roofs of the nave and chancel, while the north aisle may have a waggon roof from the 15th century.

The pulpit, which is semi-octagonal, was rebuilt in the early 17th century, and the furnishings are generally from the later 19th century. There is an octagonal font and the Royal Arms of George III. Additionally, fragments of medieval glass can be found in the east and north-east windows.
