Description

Hillcott is an 18th-century house located on Brampford Speke Chapel Road. It is constructed of cob on a stone plinth, with a slate hipped roof that replaced an earlier thatch covering. The house is nearly symmetrical in design, featuring two storeys. A central doorway is sheltered by a small, circa 1900 canopy, flanked by two two-light windows on either side. Above, there are two matching two-light windows, with a small stairwell window positioned centrally. The house has an end stack with a corresponding fire-window, and a rear stack. Attached to the right of the house is a smaller, lower cottage, likely dating to the 19th century. Hillcott serves as a significant visual conclusion to the group of buildings consisting of the post office, numbers 1-6 Chapel Road, and The Lodge.
