Description

The Jubilee Clock Tower, built in 1897 by architects Kerley and Ellis, commemorates Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. This structure features a square plan made of ashlar and has a tapered pyramidal roof covered in copper. The tower includes cornices both below and above the clock faces, which are set within a sandstone panel adorned with marble corner columns. The corners of the shaft are chamfered. At the base, there is a round arched plaque facing the sea and an elliptical arched doorway facing the land. Above this, a moulded sandstone mutule frieze and cornice can be found. The roof is topped with an elaborate wrought iron finial that includes a crown, although it is damaged.
