Description

The Lawn, including the garden wall adjoining to the south, is a house located on the north side of Otterton Fore Street. It likely dates from the 18th century and was refurbished in the late 19th century. The house features plastered walls, probably made of cob on stone rubble footings, with one end wall of exposed late 19th-century brick, including chimney pots from the Rolle Estate. The roof is thatched, with slate on the outshot.

This is a three-room plan house facing south-south-east and set well back from the street. The right room has a rear lateral stack, while the left room features a large gable end stack. There are continuous outshots across the rear, which may be integral, with the right end having a stack and a secondary outshot on the left (western) end. The main house is two stories high with irregular fenestration, including four windows on the ground floor and three on the first floor, all of which are late 19th-century casements with glazing bars. There is a contemporary plank door located to the right of center. The roof is gable-ended, and at the left front end, the eaves extend down over the stack.

The interior was not available for inspection at the time of the survey. A tall plastered cob wall on rubble footings with tile coping extends from the right (eastern) front corner, running along the eastern side of the garden. The Lawn is part of a group of attractive listed buildings that line Otterton Fore Street.
