Description
1 The Green is a cottage built in the late 18th to early 19th century. It features plastered cob on stone rubble footings, with stone rubble or brick stacks topped with 19th and 20th-century brick, and a thatch roof. The cottage has a two-room plan and faces north onto the Green. There is a central cross-passage that contains the stairs, and it has end stacks, with the right stack shared with the adjoining cottage, No. 3. At the rear of the right room, there is a kitchen outshot. The building is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window front with late 19th to early 20th-century casements that include glazing bars. The central doorway features a 19th-century six-panel door. The roof is continuous with the adjoining cottage to the right and gable-ended to the left. Inside, there are 19th-century joinery details. No. 1 The Green is the left (east) end cottage of a row of attractive contemporary cottages, which combine vernacular cob and thatch with more refined details in the doorways and some windows.
