Description

The Bowdage chest tomb, located approximately 2 metres south-east of the chancel of the Church of St Giles in Northleigh, dates from 1636 and commemorates Tristram Bowdage. It is constructed from beerstone ashlar and has a rectangular shape with plain sides, resting on a moulded plinth. The heavy flat lid features soffit-moulded edges. On the south side, there is an inscription in large Roman serif capitals that notes the death of Tristram Bowdage in 1636 at the age of 94.
