Description
The Daw chest tomb, located approximately 4 metres west of the tower of the Church of All Saints, is a Grade II listed structure dated 1859. It commemorates John and Philippa Daw and is made of limestone. The tomb features moulded plinths and a flat lid with moulded edges. Each corner has bead-moulding, and a vertical sunken bead-mould gives the appearance of corner piers. The rectangular panels on each side are framed by similar sunken bead-moulds, with those on the long sides flanked by verticals. The north and south sides are inscribed with Roman serif capitals. The south side notes the deaths of John and Philippa Daw (1850 and 1859 respectively), while the north side records the deaths of William and Mary Kendall (1840 and 1809 respectively), along with two of their children, and concludes with a Biblical quote. The tomb is set on a platform that contains the sockets from former area railings.
