Description
The churchyard wall and steps, located approximately 4 metres east of the Church of St Mary, were built in 1849. Constructed from local flint rubble, the churchyard is situated on a steep slope on the south side and is supported by this rubble wall. Near the south gateway, there is a Beerstone plaque featuring a shield within a quatrefoil panel. The inscription commemorates Arthur William, the infant son of Edward Arthur Copleston, who died in 1849, noting that the wall and steps were rebuilt in his memory. The steps leading up to the south gate are cobbled with flint.
