Description
Thatchcote is a cottage that likely dates from the late 18th century to the 19th century. It is constructed from local flint and stone rubble, with stone rubble stacks topped with 20th-century brick, and features a thatch roof. The cottage faces south-west and has a two-room plan with a central entrance leading to the stairs. There are gable-end stacks and it is two storeys high, with a woodshed outshot on the left (north-west) end.
The exterior has a symmetrical three-window front with 19th and 20th-century casements, although the latest ground floor windows do not have glazing bars. The central doorway features a 20th-century part-glazed door set behind a contemporary boarded porch. The roof is gable-ended.
Inside, there are no exposed carpentry details on the ground floor, and both fireplaces are blocked. The roof was not inspected during the survey. Thatchcote is part of a charming group of thatch-roofed cottages, including Thatch and Beckside Cottage and Ropley.
