Description
The Dirdon chest tomb, dated 1830, is located approximately 7 metres south-east of the chancel of the Church of St Giles in Northleigh. This chest tomb is constructed from Beerstone ashlar and rests on a moulded plinth. Its flat lid features moulded edges. Each corner is adorned with a vase-shaped baluster pilaster, and each side has a fielded panel surrounded by bead-moulding. The south side panel is inscribed with Roman serif lettering, both upper and lower case, including some italics, commemorating the death of Samuel Dirdon in 1830.
