Description
The Church of St Mary is a parish church that dates primarily from the 13th century, with additional work from the 14th and 15th centuries. It underwent restoration in 1878. The building is constructed from small stone rubble with freestone dressings and has a slate roof. It consists of a short nave, a chancel, a west tower, and a south porch. The nave features two light flat-headed windows, while the chancel has two light windows on both the north and south sides with cusped heads, and a lancet window on the south. The east window is formed by a group of three lancets. The west tower is short and topped with a saddleback roof, featuring lancets, a two light straight-headed window on the south side, and large angle buttresses with set-offs. There is a chamfered doorway at the south of the tower and a porch with a double chamfered arch.
Inside, there is a double chamfered tower arch, with the inner arch resting on corbels, and a moulded chancel arch. The chancel's south wall contains a piscina with a cusped moulded arch, and there are stairs leading to the rood loft. Some 17th-century painted texts can be found on the nave walls, along with a 15th-century octagonal font. A monument in the church features a tablet dedicated to Nicholas Pinney from 1693, and there are 19th-century furnishings throughout.
