Description

Vicarage Cottage is probably a late 17th or early 18th century estate cottage. It is built of creamwashed and rendered walls, likely cob on stone footings, with a thatched roof. The roof has a plain ridge and is hipped at the left end and gabled at the right. A large, projecting rear stack has a tall chimney shaft; a modern stack is located at the left end. The cottage has a single-depth plan with a large, centrally positioned heated room, and narrower service rooms to the left and right. The asymmetrical front has three windows. A 20th century plank door sits to the left of centre, sheltered by a gabled porch hood. The ground floor windows are mostly 20th century timber casements, some with glazing bars and others with square leaded panes. The window on the left of the first floor is a 20th century metal framed casement. Inside, a plain lintel is visible above the fireplace of the lateral stack. It is a small, traditional cottage set back from and adjacent to Blackmores, formerly known as Pennywain. It is situated at the east end of an exceptional estate village, notable for its cob and thatched buildings.
