Description
The churchyard walls, including the lychgate and a small timber gate, are located at the Church of St Andrew in Broadhembury. The walls are partly rendered, likely made of cob, and feature red tile capping, with some sections constructed from stone rubble. The lychgate, made of stone rubble, has a tiled roof and dates from the late 19th century, while the walls are probably older, pre-19th century. The small timber gate, situated west of the tower, is believed to be from the 1920s or 1930s and showcases Arts and Crafts influences. The lychgate has a hipped roof of ornamental tiles supported by stone rubble walls and features a pair of timber gates with vertical boards pierced with quatrefoils, topped with iron spikes. These structures are important to the setting of the church and contribute to the character of the unspoiled village center.
