Description
Hamlet is a house that likely has a 17th-century core but was remodeled and extended in the early 19th century. It is constructed of whitewashed and rendered materials, probably cob and stone rubble, and features a thatched roof with a plain ridge and gabled ends. The house has an L-shaped plan, with the main range facing south. This main section, dating from the early 19th century, includes a principal room on the right and a staircase to the left of the entrance. The rear right wing is likely of 17th-century origin and has a thatched outbuilding at the end, which is said to have been a tannery.
The exterior is two stories tall with an asymmetrical three-window south front that has regular fenestration. There is a 19th-century panelled front door on the left, accompanied by a timber trellis porch from the same period. The windows are a mix of early 19th-century small-pane sash windows, along with other sashes and casements.
Inside, the rear right room features a 17th-century chamfered crossbeam and an open fireplace with a chamfered timber lintel. The early 19th-century main range includes period joinery, such as a stick baluster staircase. This house is situated in a prominent position along the roadside.
