Former rectory. An early C19 remodelling by John and William Lee of Honiton (D.R.O.) of an earlier house. Rendered with a bitumen-painted slate roof and stacks with brick shafts. Plan: Approximate L plan, 2 ranges at right angles, an entrance block facing east and a main range facing south. Although the fabric and fittings seen at time of survey (1987) appeared to be 1820s the house is said to have an earlier core and is described in terriers of 1601, 1744 and 1808. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4 window entrance (east) elevation, gabled to the front at the left end with a 2 storey canted bay to right of centre and a verandah on posts to left of centre. Panelled C19 front door with a glazed overlight, fenestration of small pane early C19 timber sashes. The garden (south) elevation is 3 bays with a 2-storey bow with a conical slate roof at the left with early C19 small pane tripartite sashes. C19 French windows with small panes to the ground floor, early C19 tripartite sashes with small panes to the first floor. Interior: Early C19 features survive including a marble chimney-piece and shutters. Roof: Not inspected but a pre C19 roof structure may survive. A handsome house, picturesquely-sited. In 1850 it was described as "a good residence, in a romantic nook, having an extensive prospect in front but sheltered on other sides by woody hills". (Whites Devon 1850)). No photograph.
