Description
The Shepard chest tomb, located approximately 4 metres west of the tower of the Church of All Saints, is a Grade II listed structure dated 1836, commemorating Henry Shepard. This chest tomb is made of limestone and features a moulded plinth and lid with a very low pitched ridge and moulded edges. Each corner has bead-moulding, and there is a vertical sunken bead-mould nearby that creates the appearance of corner piers. The tomb has rectangular fielded panels on each side, framed by bead-moulds, with the long sides flanked by similar verticals. The north side panel is inscribed; the first word is in Gothic script, while the rest is in Roman serif capitals, including some italicized letters, recording the death of Henry Shepard in 1836.
