Description
Yew Tree Cottage is a cottage likely built in the late 18th to early 19th century. It is constructed from plastered local stone rubble, with a stone rubble stack and a plastered brick chimney shaft, topped with a thatched roof. The cottage has a three-room plan, facing southwest, and is set back from the lane, built across the hillslope. The southeast room is heated by a rear lateral stack. It has two storeys and features a three-window front with 20th-century casements, most of which have glazing bars. The front doorway is located to the right of center and has a late 19th-century four-panel door beneath a contemporary gabled hood. The roof is hipped at both ends. Although the interior was not inspected during the survey, it was noted that the two main ground floor rooms do not have ceiling beams. Yew Tree Cottage is part of a charming group of mostly thatch-roofed buildings that contribute to the appeal of the hamlet of Street.
