Description

Wild Court is a late 16th-century manor house, likely built around 1593, and possibly incorporating an earlier structure. The building is constructed from stone rubble with freestone dressings and has a plain tile roof with moulded stone coping to the gable ends. Originally E-shaped in plan, the south-west wing has been demolished. The building is two storeys high, with a six-window range and a projecting wing to the north-east. Windows are mullioned, featuring ovolo moulded stone mullions and hood moulds, with two, three, and four lights. The first floor windows are set within small gables and have elaborate finials. A two-storey gabled porch is centrally positioned, featuring a similar finial and a four-centred arch doorway with the Moore family arms displayed in a moulded panel above. The inner doorway has a moulded wooden frame and a studded oak door. A parallel range at the rear creates a double-depth plan. The rear (north-west) elevation is rendered and contains an ovolo moulded wooden mullion window and sash windows. A 19th-century wing extends from the rear with a range of sash windows. Inside, two contemporary panelled rooms remain on the ground floor, featuring arcaded overmantles displaying the Moore arms and four-centred arch moulded stone chimneypieces. A staircase includes a dog-gate. A panelled room on the first floor features a moulded stone chimneypiece and a painted arcaded overmantle with a shield and console brackets supporting the cornice. The hall has later 18th-century panelling. The building was likely constructed by Robert Moore, evidenced by his initial and the date "1593" on a lead rainwater head.
