Description

Middle Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around 1720, with later extensions. It is constructed of coursed sarsen stone with limestone ashlar quoins, string courses, and architraves, topped with a slate roof. The building has two storeys and three bays, arranged in an open E-plan. The original block is aligned to the road and features three bays with a central entrance to a stair hall, although the door has now been removed. A string course rises over the flanking windows, which all have wide moulded stone architraves and early 19th-century sixteen-pane sash windows, some of which have been renewed.

The entrance has been relocated to the left elevation, where there is a three-bay wing, likely built in the later 18th century. This wing was further extended by one bay in the mid-19th century, featuring brick dressings and 20 and 24-pane sash windows. The door here is also from the 19th century, consisting of four panels with a stone architrave and a bracketed stone canopy, flanked by a round-headed keyed window. The north end of the main block was also extended to the rear in the 19th century, constructed of sarsen with limestone dressings, and further extended by a brick block from the early 20th century, which is linked to a brick wash-house via a covered way. The roofs are hipped and include three-light paned dormers and a tall brick chimney stack. The front garden is enclosed by iron railings on a dwarf wall, with the ends sweeping around to stone piers.
