Description

The J. Chanter monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 1 metre east of the M. Chanter monument, northeast of the north aisle of the Church of St. Bartholomew. This mid 18th-century tomb is constructed of ashlar stone and features a large draped plaque on the north side, fielded angle piers, and an oval plaque on the east side. The south side is plain, while the west end displays a shield inscribed with 'Memento Mori'. The north side bears an inscription dedicated to John Chanter, a clothier who died in 1772.
