Description

Beehive Cottage is a mid-19th century toll house that has been converted into a cottage. It is constructed of knapped flint with brick and features a Welsh slate roof with a brick chimney. The building has a T-plan layout and is two stories high with a two-window front. The first floor is hung with Welsh slate and includes a central triangular-headed door flanked by triangular-headed casements, which are now enclosed within a full-width glazed porch.

On the right side, there are a two-light and a single triangular-headed casement on the ground and first floors. The left side has one two-light triangular-headed casement on both floors. The front section has a three-brick plat band at the first floor level. The rear part of the cottage, which is wider than the front, matches the style of the front windows and includes a triangular-headed door and one two-light triangular-headed casement on the first floor. The interior has not been inspected. Beehive Cottage is prominently located at the junction of the Portway and the A345, near the Salisbury - Amesbury toll road, which was completed around 1850.
