Description

The farm buildings at the Manor House, dating from the mid-19th century, are part of the Longleat Estate. They consist of a barn range with a horse engine shed and an attached cowshed range, constructed from rubble stone with brick dressings and half-hipped Welsh slate roofs, arranged in an 'L' shape.

The two-storey north range, used for the cowshed, features five segmental-headed stable doors and fixed windows, with a blocked cart entry on the south side facing the yard. The north side has some square fixed windows and additional blocked openings. The west gable of the left return has been altered with the insertion of 20th-century garage doors.

At the southeast end, there is a 9-bay barn range with an English bond brick plinth supporting a weatherboarded timber-framed wall. The east side of this barn has two large cart entries with double planked doors, a shuttered window, and an octagonal horse engine shed with open sides, a shuttered opening to the first floor, and a pointed slate roof. A throughway on the right leads to an inner yard. The west side of the barn range has a pair of double doors and one blocked entry, mirroring those on the east side, along with a lean-to extension featuring slate roofs.

These ranges enclose the yard on two sides, while the other side has single-storey cowsheds. The south range has been altered in the 19th century, and the west range is from the 20th century and is not of special interest. Inside the barn range, there is a 9-bay roof with curved bracing from the tie-beam to jowled main posts, vertical struts to the principals, and two tiers of butt purlins. The buildings ceased to be used in 1969.
