Description
The Round House is a watchman's cottage for the Thames and Severn Canal, built in 1790. It is constructed of pebbledashed brick with limestone dressings around the doors and windows. Originally, it featured an inward sloping lead roof and has three storeys, with stabling on the ground level. There is an earth ramp leading to the first-floor door. The doors and windows are narrow and have pointed arches, but all openings are currently blocked. The pebbledash was applied in the 20th century, replacing the original rendering. Inside, there is a fireplace on the first floor and a staircase leading to the top floor, which is built within the thickness of the wall. The building also has a chimney. It has group value with the nearby bridge, lock vestiges, and gate pier.
