Description

The Lodge is a building dating from around 1902, possibly designed by C. E. Ponting, who was the architect and surveyor for Marlborough College. It features Flemish bond red brick with blue brick diaper work and stone window frames. The roof is a hipped design covered with concrete tiles, featuring deep eaves and wrought-iron gutter brackets. There is a projecting brick stack on the left side with a moulded brick cornice.

The building has a rectangular plan with the main room located at the south front, while services and the entrance are situated on the right side. It is designed in a vernacular revival style and is one storey with an attic. The symmetrical south front has one window, which is a moulded stone mullion three-light window with a hoodmould and leaded casements. Above the eaves, there is a wide four-light half-dormer with a flat roof and moulded wooden cornice. The doorway is located on the right-hand (east) side.

The Lodge serves as the entrance to Hyde Cross and was built for house masters of Marlborough College. C. E. Ponting also designed Marlborough Town Hall and Marlborough College Gymnasium. The interior has not been inspected.
