Description

Manor Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse, dated 1717 on the rainwater heads. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a roof covered in concrete interlocking tiles, featuring saddleback coped verges and ashlar stacks. The building is two stories and an attic over a basement, with five windows across the front. The central entrance has double doors with fielded panels, a segmental-headed architrave with a keystone, a flat stone hood, sidelights, and two 18-pane segmental-headed sash windows on either side. The basement includes two 2-light cyma-mullioned windows flanking semi-circular steps. A moulded string course runs along the first floor, where there is a central segmental-headed 24-pane sash window, flanked by an 18-pane sash and a blind window.

On the left side, there is a blocked basement mullioned window, a blocked doorway, and an 8-pane fixed window with a dripstone on both the ground and first floors, along with a 6-pane attic window. The right side features 8-pane sashes and a 2-light attic casement. The farmhouse has a rear wing and single-storey extensions added in the 1860s. The lead rainwater heads are inscribed with the initials A E, representing Anthony and Elizabeth Kingston. The interior was not accessible during the survey in November 1986, but it is said to retain original features. Attached to the front of the farmhouse are well-crafted rubble stone walls with swept flat coping, central gatepiers with panelled sides, moulded capping, and volutes, along with 19th-century double cast-iron gates.
