Description
Masons is a house with origins dating back to the late 17th century. It underwent alterations in the early 19th century and was linked in the 20th century to a converted range of stalls from around 1850. The house is built of rubble stone and features a stone slate roof, with end stacks and a three-window range that mostly consists of renewed casements. On the upper floor, there are three 4-light casements, while the ground floor has two pairs of casements to the left and a triple casement in the center. There is a door set in an ashlar gabled porch with a depressed arch, and to the right, a 3-light cyma-moulded recessed mullion window with a hoodmould. The east end of the house is connected to the former stalls range, which was once part of Manor Farm. This range runs south and has a hipped roof, with the west front featuring two garages to the left and four bays to the right, supported by circular stone piers and 20th-century walling with windows set back behind. The stalls are characteristic of the estate buildings associated with the Grittleton estate.
