Description
Nos 321 and 323 Lower Street are two cottages in a row, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. No 321 is constructed of a mix of brick, flint, and clunch, topped with a thatched roof, while the south gable is roughcast. This cottage has two storeys and three bays, with the entrance located in the right bay featuring a half-glazed door and a gabled open porch. The windows are timber casements with cambered brick heads.
No 323 is the earlier of the two, built with flint and clunch in a chequerwork pattern and brick quoins. It is a single storey with an attic, consisting of two bays and a central boarded door set in a gabled open porch. This cottage has sliding casement windows. An extension of one bay to the north, made of clunch with brick quoins, dates from the early 18th century as well. Both cottages have left stacks, and No 323 features thatch swept over dormers, with a half-hipped roof to the north side that has weatherboarding below.
