Description

The dovecote at Faulston House is an early 17th-century structure made of flint with dressed limestone bands. It features a conical tiled roof topped with a raised conical louvre at the apex. Originally built with several storeys, it is now open from the ground to the roof. The north side, which faces Faulston House, has a tall chamfered doorway, with the upper part now blocked. To the left, there is a first-floor planked door and recessed chamfered square windows or loopholes. The west side includes a blocked Tudor-arched opening at the upper floor level and several loopholes. The south side has one blocked and one open recessed chamfered window. Inside, there are stone corbels that supported the former first floor, and the walls above are lined with stone pigeon boxes, along with renewed roof timbers. Local legend and John Aubrey mention that there were once four such towers around the moated Faulston House, although this has not been confirmed.
