Description
This group of stables and a dovecote, built in the mid-19th century for the Wilton Estate, is located opposite Faulston House. The structure features brick and flint bands, with Welsh slate roofs and a brick stack on the gable end of the north range. It is arranged in an L-plan, with the dovecote positioned at the angle. The building is single storey with lofts.
The west range includes two planked stable doors and top-opening casements on the left, while the stable on the right has two casements and a stable door, along with a gabled loft door in the center. The square dovecote situated between the ranges has a pyramidal slate roof with a louvre at its apex. The north range contains five planked stable doors with transom lights on the left, and the right side features an inserted garage door and three planked doors, with a gabled loft door above. The rear of the ranges has a small number of casements.
Although the interior was not inspected, this group of buildings is noted as a well-preserved example of farm buildings constructed by the Wilton Estate in the Chalke Valley. It is included for its group value with Faulston House.
