Description

Canty Neuk is a house, likely dating from the 18th century, that has been altered over time. It is rendered on the upper portion, with a rubble plinth and a roof covered in Bridgwater tiles. A chimney stack is located at the west end. The two-storey, double-fronted facade features two sixteen-pane sash windows on each floor. A dripcourse runs along the facade, and a central door is set within a flush moulded surround topped with a hood supported by brackets. A parallel rear range extends from the main house. The ground floor window on the left is a replacement dating from around 1980, installed in place of a fine early 19th century bowed shop window with twenty-four panes. The east end wall contains two-light cyma-moulded flush mullion windows. The house was used as a beer house between approximately 1840 and 1850. Local accounts suggest a graffito date of 1790 is visible on the building.
