Description

The Cedars is a late 18th-century house located on Silver Street in Warminster. The front of the house is constructed of ashlar, with a projecting basement wall featuring a moulded coping. A plain string course runs at the first-floor level, and the eaves are flat and bracketed. The roof is a hipped design, covered with slate at the front and old tile on the sides. The house has sash windows with glazing bars, and the original sliding shutters have been removed, although the small keystones above the windows remain. Four windows are on the first floor, and three on the ground floor. The front door has five panels and was originally set within a stone surround, which has been replaced by modern fluted pilasters supporting a shallow, bracketted pediment. A fielded panel is set within the lintel, with an open pediment applied above it. A double flight of moulded stone steps with plain contemporary iron rails and standards – topped with small urns – leads to the front door, standing free of the steps. There are three basement mullion windows. Inside, a Regency staircase with a ramped rail is positioned at a right angle to the hall.
