Description
The small granary located to the north of the large barn at Countess Farm dates from the late 18th century. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, resting on four 3-foot staddles, with additional staddles added later. The granary features a tiled roof that is half hipped, and has a boarded door on the west face leading to a raised platform. There are vents in the gables for ventilation.
Inside, the ground floor is divided by two stop-chamfered cross beams with check and scoop stops, and there are three grain bins in the north bay. The upper floor includes a central truss with queen struts supporting a single purlin and wind braces, while the ceiling is underdrawn in plaster. This granary is part of an important group of late 18th-century farm buildings at Countess Farm.
