Description
The estate boundary wall at Amesbury, located on Countess Road, dates from the 18th century. It is constructed of flint and stone, featuring stone copings and stands approximately 3 meters high. The wall begins at the north end of the estate wall from Kent House and curves down to a pedestrian gate leading to Diana's House. It has a hogs-back coping with an apex roll and includes damaged strapwork cresting over the pedestrian gate. The wall runs for about 50 meters, ending at 20th-century piers and railings that cross a branch of the River Avon. The piers are made of ashlar and have a cornice with ball finials. The wrought iron railings are arranged in three panels, topped with urn finials and supported by stanchions. There are four blocked slit windows along the length of the wall, and a breach was made at the south end in 1987.
