Description
Fairlawn Hotel is a surgeon's house, now functioning as a hotel, built around 1840-1850 for G.B. Batho. The building features Flemish bond brickwork and has a slate roof. It is two storeys high with a cellar, consisting of three bays on the front and four bays deep. The central bay is slightly set forward and includes an inset portico supported by two Tuscan columns and pilasters, with fielded panels on the frieze. There is a fanlight above the inner door. The windows are sixteen-paned sash style with gauged brick lintels. The roof is hipped and has tall gable stacks. There are round-headed doorways on the left side and at the rear. Inside, the reception rooms are tall and feature cornices and central ceiling motifs. The staircase dates from the period of construction, 1840-1850.
