Description

The Dancy Monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 2 meters north of the first window of the north aisle of the Church of St. Bartholomew. It dates from around 1760 and is constructed of ashlar stone. The tomb features two framed slate plaques on the north side, with rebated angles that include husk drops and high relief carved oval plaques at each end. The eastern plaque depicts a flower, while the western plaque shows a skull. There is a single plaque on the south side. The monument has a moulded base and cornice, topped with a heavily moulded scrolled gadrooned design. The inscriptions commemorate S. Dancy, a builder and surveyor who died in 1775, and W. Dancy, who died in 1757.
