Description
The Forge is a building located in Grittleton, which was remodeled around 1860 from a 17th-century structure. It is constructed from rubble stone and features a stone slate roof with eaves, barge boards, end stacks, and one ridge stack. The building is two stories high and has a three-window range, characterized by two main gables and a small central gable, all adorned with fretted barge boards.
The windows are recessed and feature ovolo-moulded mullions, with a combination of 3-light, 2-light, and 3-light windows on the first floor, all topped with blank shields. The ground floor has a 4-light window with king mullions on either side of a central door, which is flanked by 2-light windows. Each window is fitted with hoodmoulds. The entrance door is set within an open ashlar porch that has a barge boarded gable, a depressed arch at the front, and chamfered piers.
