Description

Castle House is a house dating from 1672, constructed of rubble stone with a stone tiled roof and ashlar end wall stacks. It is two-and-a-half storeys high and has a two-window front. The house features flush quoins. The windows are ovolo-moulded recessed stone mullion windows, each with hoodmoulds and relieving arches; the attic window has two lights, while the first and ground floor windows have three. A single-light attic window and a timber first-floor window are located at the north end. A parallel rear range has timber windows to the north end on the ground floor and in the attic. The south end wall has a two-light ground-floor window and a single-light first-floor stone mullion window, both with hoods and relieving arches. A short rear wing contains a two-light timber window above a 20th-century stone-tiled porch, which incorporates an inserted 17th-century oak doorcase with a plank door. A datestone on the front wall is inscribed N.E.1672. The windows have leaded lights, with some incorporating iron opening lights.
