Description
The White Hart Inn is a 17th-century inn located in Castle Combe Market Place. It is constructed of rendered rubble stone and features a stone tile roof with end wall and ridge stacks. The building has one storey and an attic, with a three-gable front. The larger gable on the left has a three-light flush stone mullion window with a hoodmould and stopped cyma-mouldings. The two right-side gables have three-light timber mullion windows that are ovolo-moulded.
On the ground floor, there is a four-light ovolo-moulded timber mullion window, and a door set in a stone-tiled gabled porch with ashlar sides. Additionally, there is another four-light ovolo-moulded timber mullion window and a three-light flush stone mullion window with a hoodmould and stopped cyma-mouldings. The windows throughout the building have leaded lights.
A stone four-step mounting-block is located against the front wall. At the rear, there is a curved former stair tower with a twelve-pane sash window on each floor and a gabled rear range that includes an end wall stack. Inside, the inn features an 18th-century arched corner cupboard in the southeast angle of the ground floor and another in the former stair tower. There is also a stone fireplace with moulded jambs and a stone shelf above, backing onto a cross passage.
