Description

The Butter Cross is located in Castle Combe Market Place and dates from the later 19th century, constructed using older masonry. It features two high rubble stone steps that serve as a plinth for the top section, which is made up of a Perpendicular style window head in two blocks, with the area below infilled. This structure is also known as Weavers Steps and is reputedly from a demolished gatehouse that was situated to the north of The Old Rectory. It is said to mark the boundary of the Manor.
