Description

This is a pair of early 19th century houses, likely intended as a copy of the adjacent property at No. 18. The houses are two storeys high and are constructed with brick on a stone plinth. They feature chamfered stone quoins. The walls rise to a parapet with stone coping. The roofs are slate, hipped to the left, with brick chimneys at each end.

The first floor has four arched sash windows, each set within a stone architrave and with a moulded stone sill. Each window has a central glazing bar. The ground floor features two wide, segmental-headed casements with two panes of glass, each set within a brick arch with a stone key block. A central arched doorway, also with a moulded stone architrave, plain springers and a key block, has a two-centred arch and is accessed by descending five steps. A gabled return to the right displays similar architectural detailing, plus an oculus with an architrave within the gable.

A low brick wall with stone coping and simple foliate-headed iron railings runs across the front. The taller ends of the wall ramp up to stone gate piers, which are square in plan, about 8 feet high, and topped with wide mouldings and heavy caps.
