Description
Seend Head Mill is a mill and mill-house dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed of rubble stone with red brick dressings and has a plain tile roof, featuring a ridge stack. The house section to the left has a three-window range of cambered-head casements in brick surrounds, with pairs of windows on each side and a single casement in the centre of the first floor above a door in a glazed porch. Brick quoins are present at the left angle. The mill section to the right has a cambered-head door accessed by stone steps, along with two small casements and another door. The original machinery has been removed, and the mill-wheel was replaced by a turbine around 1935. A mill has been recorded at Seend Head since 1249, and in 1642, G. Somner purchased a house and fulling mill at this location. From the 18th century until 1826, the mill was used as a dye works.
